Cellar ’54 announced its opening on Saturday, July 10, and is located on 9368 W. Law Road.
This winery has long been in the making since the start of Coletta Vineyards in 1954 by Dan and Alta Coletta.
As a lifelong dream of the family, Dan began the expansion from vineyard to winery in October 2020 after Ann Coletta’s passing.
“The whole process has been exhilarating,” co-owner and Marketing Director, Morgan Kirsch said. “This has been a dream of the family for quite a while and now it has come to a reality.
“We are so excited to further the Coletta Vineyards name and now make a name for ourselves in the wine industry. We are continuing to put in the hard work ethic that created and sustained the vineyards into our winery and we look forward to growing and serving our community.”
Beau Coletta is grandson and winemaker of Cellar ’54 using his viticulture degree from Mercyhurst North East. Beau also continued his studies at Appalachian State University in fermentation studies.
Currently, Cellar ’54 has three varieties of wine—Concord, Diamond white wine and a dry Concord.
“Our three table wines are the Divinity, which is a white wine made from diamond grapes,” Kirsch said. “It is lightly sweet with a crisp fruity flavor. Gratitude is our sweet concord wine with intense grape flavor and Goddess is our dry concord version.”
By the end of the month, Beau will have three more wines available to taste and purchase, the Vidal Blanc, Riesling and Steuben.
“Our goal is to continue to produce quality wines throughout the year, and we’ll be adding a few more dry reds by fall harvest,” Kirsch said.
Cellar ’54 does not have a storefront yet, but it is expected to happen soon. As for now, there is a taste bar for customers and options to order online pickup at the winery.
“We hope to have a storefront by next year but also create a more permanent taste house at our current production site as well to still incorporate a feel for the vineyards to the consumer,” Kirsch said.
The taste bar is open Friday from 2 to 8 p.m., Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.
Wine and merchandise are available for purchase on the website, www.cellar54wines.com. Customers have the option for delivery or pickup at the facility through the entrance facing the vineyards.
Cellar ’54 will also be participating in the 2021 Winefest.
“Harvest season in North East is a truly remarkable time of the year and we feel honored to be a part of Winefest and share in the experience,” Kirsch said.
