Last Minute Bits

Early Deadline
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the North East News-Journal will have an early deadline for the Friday, Nov. 29, edition. All submissions must be sent in by Monday, Nov. 25, at noon. Email submissions to nenjeditor@gmail.com or call 725-4831.
Greenfield Turkey Shoots
Greenfield Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a Turkey Shoot on Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the fire station, 10160 Station Road. Come support your local volunteer fire company! Bring your shotguns (12, 16 and 20 gauge) and we’ll provide the shells. Shots are $2 each. The kitchen will be open for breakfast and lunch, and free coffee will be provided.
“Sip & Sample”
“Sip & Sample” flavors of fall at the Grape Discovery Center on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will feature five wineries and five local restaurants and live music by Tim Bartlett. Presale tickets $12 and are available at www.grapediscoverycenter.com or by calling 716-326-2003. Tickets are $15 at the door day of the event. Cost includes all tastings and entertainment.
Rededication Ceremony
North East Middle School will host a rededication ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. the ceremony will be followed by an open house with light refreshments until 7:30 p.m.
“Blithe Spirit”
North East High School’s Drama Club will be performing Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit” on Friday, Nov. 22, and Saturday, Nov. 23, in the high school’s auditorium. Both performances begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5.
Holiday Bazaar and Bake Sale
St. Paul’s Ladies Aid Holiday Bazaar and Bake Sale will be held on Friday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at the church, on the corner of Robinson and Clinton streets. There will be pies, baked goods, quilts, crafts, Rada products and boxed cards to help everyone get ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas. In addition, there will be a quilt raffle. Everyone is invited.
Senior Thanksgiving
Praise Cathedral Church of God invites everyone ages 55 and older to the Senior Thanksgiving Meal on Nov. 25 beginning at noon in the gym on the east side of the church. Doors open at 11:15 a.m. RSVP by calling 725-8767 or reserve your spot online at pccog.org.
Free Thanksgiving Day Dinner
Park United Methodist Church, 30 N. Lake St., will host a Free Thanksgiving Day Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservations are requested, but not required. Call the church office at 814-725-4105. Take-out and delivery will be available for the North East area.
Christmas Food Boxes
The North East Council of Churches is sponsoring North East Community Christmas Food Boxes. Monetary donations may be made to your local church or made payable to North East Clergy Council/Christmas Boxes and mailed to Anne Bardol, c/o Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, 51 West Main Street, North East, PA 16428. To submit a name for someone to receive a Christmas food box, please contact your local church for an application. Persons submitting the name of a family to receive a box must give their name and telephone number as well as the person’s name they are submitting. All forms must be submitted to your local church by Monday, Dec. 2, or to the First Baptist Church by Wednesday, Dec. 4. For more information call 725-4698.
November's Charity Cocktail
The Community Women’s Club of North East (CWCNE) invites adults to visit The Skunk and Goat Tavern in North East during November and to support its local service projects by purchasing the “Smash the Barrel” charity cocktail. Partial proceeds from the sales of this special beverage will be kindly donated to CWCNE, whose service projects include Clothes for Kids, Diaper Bags for Young Mothers, Easter Baskets for Senior Citizens and Shut-ins and more.
“Can You Hear the Angels"
The North East Choral Club will present a Christmas concert entitled “Can You Hear the Angels,” on Friday, Dec.13, at 7:30 p.m. and again on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m. Both performances will be at Park United Methodist Church, 30 N. Lake St. Refreshments will follow in the church’s fellowship hall. Donations will benefit local nonprofits.
