Last Minute Bits

Early deadline
Due to the Christmas holiday, there will be an early deadline for the Dec. 27 edition of the North East News-Journal. All submissions must be sent in by noon on Friday, Dec. 20
Pop Up Shop
Tamara’s Pop Up Art Store, 22 S. Lake St., will be open this holiday season. The store’s hours will be Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m., Thursday to Saturday from 1 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
“Can You Hear the Angels"
The North East Choral Club will present a Christmas concert entitled “Can You Hear the Angels,” on Friday, Dec.13, at 7:30 p.m. and again on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m. Both performances will be at Park United Methodist Church, 30 N. Lake St. Refreshments will follow in the church’s fellowship hall. Donations will benefit local nonprofits.
Christmas fest
The sixth-annual Christmas Fest will take place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 30 Clinton St., on Saturday, Dec. 14, from noon to 4 p.m. Free activities include hayrides, festival of trees, craft making and games for children, face painting, live music, marshmallow roasting, cookies and hot chocolate. There will also be a Smith’s hot dog lunch for $3, a large gifts auction and a free door prize raffle. There will be fun for the whole family and everyone is invited!
Live Nativity
Faith Lutheran Church, 5414 E. Lake Road, will be having a live nativity on Friday, Dec. 13, and Saturday, Dec. 14, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided. All are welcome.
Christmas in the Vineyards
The Grape Discovery Center, 8305 W. Main Road, Westfield, will hose Christmas in the Vineyards on Saturday, Dec. 14, from noon to 4 p.m. The event will feature a children’s craft corner, complimentary cookies, a visit with Santa and live holiday music. Festive beverages will be available for purchase. There will also be unique gifts, a holiday basket raffle and custom gift baskets. For more information, call 716-326-2003.
Food box distribution
The North East Council of Churches’ North East Community Christmas Food Boxes will be distributed on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon at First Baptist Church, 43 S. Lake St.
Army VS Navy
The North East American Legion Post 105 invites you to their second-annual Army VS Navy Football Game Party on Dec. 14 from 2:30 to 6 p.m. It is open to the public. The cost is $2 per person which will include munchies and a half-time buffet. This is a great chance to root for your favorite team with your friends!
Miller Mistletoe Mile
The Skunk and Goat Tavern is proud to bring back the Miller Mistletoe Mile on Dec. 22! This one-mile race around downtown North East is the perfect way to spread holiday cheer throughout our beautiful town. This year, all proceeds from the race will go to The Door, a non-profit organization in North East. Registration will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the race begins at 6 p.m. Cost is $20 and includes a long-sleeve T-shirt. AFS fundraiser
The North East chapter of AFS has a limited number of golf umbrellas left to sell. These golf umbrellas have maroon and white stripes and come with a gold NE logo. This is the last time the chapter will be selling them. Contact Sherry Elchynski at 881-6269 if you are interested in buying one before they are all gone.
