Last Minute Bits

Ice Cream Social Canceled
Helping Hand’s Ice Cream Social event scheduled for Sept. 20 at North East High School has been canceled.
International Coastal Cleanup
The annual International Coastal Cleanup is set for Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers should meet at the North East Marina at 8:30 a.m.
Chicken BBQ
Boy Scout Troop 57 will host a Chicken BBQ Dinner on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the NEHS parking lot. Cost is $10 per meal and includes a half chicken, baked beans, macaroni salad and roll with butter.
North East Borough Tax Collector's office hours
The North East Borough Tax Collector's office will be open Monday, Sept. 23; Tuesday, Sept. 24; and Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. or other times by appointment at 814-347-6030. Payments may be dropped off at any time in the front door mail slot or made online at http://northeastborough.egovpayments.com/egov/apps/payment/center.egov. Last day for discount payment is Monday, Sept. 30.
Soup and Salad Luncheon
Park United Methodist Church will host a Soup and Salad Luncheon on Friday, Sept. 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu will include homemade vegetable beef soup, gelatin salad, bread, homemade dessert and beverages. Cost is $6 and takeout will be available.
Senior Expo
On Sept. 27, the Harborcreek Senior Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Harborcreek Social Hall. Health care and social service providers will be on site.
Ananda Montessori Open House
Ananda Montessori, 17 E. Main St., will host an Open House on Sept. 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. Our doors are open for you to come and play! All are welcome to stop by! Call Pamela at 814-440-4237 for more information.
Purse Bingo
The Harbor Creek Lady Huskies softball team will host a designer purse bingo fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Harborcreek Fire Department Social Hall, 7275 Buffalo Road. Doors open at 4 p.m. and bingo beings at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased from any member of the softball team, or by contacting the Harbor Creek huskies Softball team’s Facebook page.
Volunteers Needed
Move the Mountain Food Drive committee members are looking for new volunteers to help plan this year’s November food drive. If you have a few hours to spare, call Melissa Garfield at 814-217-7042 or Corey Hansen at 814-746-5143 for more information.
Purse & Cash Bingo
Brevillier’s Purse & Cash Bingo is scheduled for Oct. 5 at Harborcreek Social Hall, 7275 Buffalo Road, Call 899-8600 for tickets. $25 per ticket or $30 at the door. Proceeds benefit the van fundraiser and Haven Program at Brevillier Village.
Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser
A Spaghetti & Meatball Dinner to support Teresa Burgess’s medical fund will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1500 Freeport Road, on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Cost is a donation and takeout will be available.
Sponsor a light pole this holiday season!
The holidays are coming up! The Chamber is getting ready to decorate the town and is looking for donors to sponsor light poles. The sponsorship costs $300 for three years and will include lit garland, a large bow and a holiday banner with the sponsor’s information displayed on the pole. NASCAR Party
The 15th annual Kuhl Hose NASCAR Party will be on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019, from 2:30 to 6 p.m. at the St. Boniface Center on Route 8. Guests can come watch the Talladega 500 on a 17x11 video screen! Tickets are a $5 donation and can be picked up at Grape Vine Laundry & Linens, 2826 State St.; Doug Yaple’s Vacuum Cleaner Center, 1815 E. 38th St.; and Hammett Motors, 9199 Wattsburg Road. Veterans Banner booklets
Banner booklets featuring this year’s 40 local Veterans are now at the McCord Memorial Library. All 40 banners for this year went up prior to the July 4th holiday, and are located in the park. Community members can read each veterans biography, their military service and how they chose to serve their country. Donations for the booklets are appreciated.
