I have lived in Rolling Meadows Trailer Park since 2002. For years, the water and sewer were included in the rent but after some time the owners of the park put in water meters so we as tenants would only pay for what we use.
That seemed to be working out well for us until this spring, the North East Water Company decided they were not getting enough, for a reason unknown to us. They installed new meters and seemed to be working just fine until July of this year.
Rolling Meadows began charging each and every trailer, $47 and Valley Village is now charging $52 per trailer as well. Before this new upcharge without an explanation, I was paying anywhere between $18 to $27 and I live by myself. I also live on a limited Social Security income while other trailers with more than four people living inside are being charged the same $47.
This problem is also happening at Valley Village.
My question is how can this be fair?
I have talked to my son who lives on Route 89 and his bill is only a few dollars more than mine and five adults live there.
I have also been told it could end up costing more. If someone cannot afford this new price every month, will they shut off the water?
This to me, feels less and less like a free country. I always pay my bills and give back to charities when I can, especially the North East fire departments.
I would like to hear some feedback and see if I am alone in this.
