Are you looking to get out of the house, have some fun, make new friends and give back? The 4 NINE Place might be the right fit for you!
The 4 NINE Place thrift store is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that is funded through the sale of donated goods. It is staffed entirely by volunteers who provide the time and talents that are needed to run the store and manage its programs.
There are about 35 people who work to sort, price and stock the shelves, maintain the store, manage the social media, write press releases, track the funds, knit and sew and organize the various programs that the 4 NINE supports.
The average monthly volunteer hours worked are 1,300. And yet, this is not sufficient to keep up with the demand. Especially in the winter months when some of our regular volunteers are off to warmer areas.
The mission of working together to give our neighbors a hand up, not a handout, in the North East small-town tradition of caring for our own is shown in the commitment from the community. Without these generous and hardworking people, the 4 NINE would not be in existence.
Volunteers can make a regular time commitment or on an as needed basis, depending upon the tasks they will be doing. The time commitment can fit your schedule and an hour of your time is helpful. There is a need for people to carry donations into the building, sort, stock the shelves and operate the cash register.
To work in the store, the ability to stand for periods of time and carry items is necessary. If you have a skill area, we can work with you to use your talents. There are even a few volunteers who contribute with work from home.
There are many perks to being a 4 NINE volunteer; the leadership works to make it as stress free as possible and supports autonomy in your work.
For more information or to volunteer, please stop by the 4 NINE Place, at 49 Smedley St., during store hours, Monday and Wednesdays from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or call 725-9804.
