La Festa di San Giuseppe is back for 2019.
This year is the 29th year that the Brotherhood of St. Joseph has been celebrating with the St Joseph Table by hosting a feast for those wishing to attend.
The Table was started by Sam Rizzo Jr. back in 1990. Most, if not all, of the past generations who hosted the Table, are now deceased.
At the family’s table in 1989, discussion around the dinner table focused on people who wanted to attend a celebration but nobody was hosting the Table with the exception of maybe one or two families which kept it small and involved primarily their own families. With that in mind and the growing interest, Sam decided to host the Table to be held at the Brotherhood of St. Joseph. Here we are 29 years later.
This year the St. Joseph Table will be held March 24. There is an extensive food lineup as in years past and anyone wishing to attend is always welcome.
Tickets can be purchased by calling Steve Gregory at the St. Joe’s club, 725-9362, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays; only from March 4 to March 21. The cost is $19 and there are two separate seatings to choose from — 1:30 to 3:30 and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The seatings sell out quick. Reservations will be accepted on a first-come firstserved basis provided that the tickets are paid for.
No reservations will be accepted without payment.
The menu consists of four different styles of pasta, numerous vegetable frosias (mini fritattas), fish, smelts, cod, salads and prepared olives. Additionally, cupalitina (a Sicilian eggplant relish ), homemade St. Joseph breads, pastries, cannoli, cakes, cookies, sfingi (sweet bread puffs) and assorted fruit and cheese.
The first seating will have Fr. Tom of St. Gregory Parish present to bless all the food and prayer. While this celebration involves many volunteers and days of food preparation and months of planning, the Brotherhood of St. Joseph’s find this a labor of love and a continuance of tradition for ourselves and most importantly for all of those who attend.
Viva San Giuseppe!
