Move over milk and cookies. There’s a new treat that has Santa salivating this year — homemade ice cream sandwiches from the Straw Hat and The Skunk & Goat Tavern.
The sandwiches start with big, chewy chocolate chip cookies made at The Skunk & Goat. Then they’re filled with The Straw Hat’s exclusive Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream.
Sandwiches are available at both locations for $6 and will become a permanent addition to the menu.
“Ice cream sandwiches are offered in Happy Valley and we thought they’d be the perfect addition to our business and community, too,” said Jeff Seevers, owner of The Straw Hat.
Seevers said he approached The Skunk & Goat Tavern because he wanted a partner that would have the same connection to the community and commitment to a quality product.
It was a win-win.
“When The Straw Hat approached us about making the cookies, we were thrilled to partner with them,” said Annē Lewis, marketing manager for Red Letter Hospitality, and a Penn State grad.
For now, you’ll find classic chocolate chip with vanilla at The Skunk & Goat for dine in or to go. Those who want to experiment a bit can choose any flavor of ice cream when they purchase ice cream sandwiches at The Straw Hat.
“Taste tests are already underway for future cookie combos come spring, including lemon and white chocolate macadamia…the possibilities are endless,” Seevers said.
The Straw Hat is open daily at 207 S. Lake St. The Skunk & Goat Tavern, at 17 W. Main St., is open Tuesday through Sunday.
