Ticket sales for the 2019 Athletic Hall of Fame induction banquet will end at the close of business today at the North East Area Chamber of Commerce. Tickets cannot be purchased at the door of the July 19 banquet. Five individual athletes are being inducted and they include: Tricia Mahoney, Greg Henderson, David Lanahan, David McCombs and Jacob Horydich.

Two track relay teams and a cross-country team, all state champions, will also be inducted. Those individuals include the 1962 880 relay team (Dick Kennedy, Allen Klenz, Harold Lynn and the late Doug Burch) and the 1968 two-mile relay team which included Rick Rouse, Jack Power, Jim Francis and Gary Murray.

The 1971 cross-country team includes Steve Hair, Steve Morey, Jeff Ore, Jim Lipnickey, Chuck Cline, Chuck Randall and the late Mike Wilkinson.

The event marks the initial induction for the newly created Career Hall of Fame. The late Philip Hirtzel will be the lone inductee. 

It has come to the committee’s attention that many of the former North East students (possibly as many as a 1,000) who’ve received a college scholarship from the Hirtzel Foundation may not know the Hirtzel Foundation was made in his memory. 

The Hall of Fame committee encourages those students to honor Hirtzel’s memory by attending his induction.
