The Pickers faced their toughest competitors—the undefeated Fairview High School—on Thursday, Jan. 2 at Fairview. While Fairview won both the girls and boys matchup, handing the North East boys their first loss of the season, the Pickers took a few swipes at the Tigers.
Senior Madeline Watts won the girls diving event with a final score of 159.75. Diver Julia Sank took fourth place, scoring more points for the Pickers.
Freshman Evan Kemp won an exciting 100 fly event in 56.10, beating Tigers senior Teddy Murphey by .13 seconds. Kemp also won the 100 backstroke with a 58.43. Also scoring in the top three in individual events were: Cody Burch (third in 200 free), Jackson Currier (second in 50 free and 500 free), Grant Girts (second in 200 IM, 100 free, Connor Haggerty (third in 50 free) and Skyler Theis-Green (second in 100 breast).
The boys relay teams placed second in the 200 medley (Kemp, M. Currier, Girts, Burch), 200 free (M. Currier, Haggerty, Theis-Green, J. Currier) and 400 free (Girts, Lawry, Burch, Kemp).
Scoring in the top three in girls’ individual events were Elizabeth Currier (second in 200 IM and 100 breast) and Lauren Cass (second in 100 back). The girls relay teams placed third in the 200 medley (Cass, Currier, A. Sveda, Schoenfeldt) and 400 free (A. Sveda, Cass, Schoenfeldt, Currier) and fourth in the 200 free (Bement, Gruber, Lutz, Grice).
