North East earned two pins against Union City in a nonregion match Thursday night, Feb. 4, in Union City.
But it wasn’t enough, as the Bears used five forfeit wins to aid themselves in defeating the Grape Pickers 45-18.
The match, which lasted less than 15 minutes, started at 145 pounds when Union City’s Clay Thomas won by forfeit. Union City then reeled off four more forfeit wins. Neither team had a wrestler in the lineup at 215, so there was not score at that weight class.
At 285 pounds, North East got its first win of the night when Jesse Phelps pinned Braxton Ken in two minutes, 35 seconds.
Each team forfeited at 106 pounds so there was no score in that weight class.
Union City’s Marcus Irwin then got the Bears’ first pin of the night in 42 seconds over Elizabeth Adcock at 113 pounds.
At 120, North East’s Jacob Rodgers won by forfeit.
At 126 pounds, Union City’s Kaden Tripp won a 2-0 decision over Blake Hill.
North East then earned another pin, this one at 132, when Brandon Lafferty pinned Daithin Kent in 1:19.
Union City finished off the scoring with a win when Zachary Beckwith pinned Tyler Lafferty in 34 seconds at 138 pounds.
