The North East boy’s freshman basketball team finished their season with an overall record of 15-9. Playing against the original Erie County league schools, North East went 6-1 in the first round of league play and 4-3 in the second round. With a combined league record of 10-4, they tied for second with Harborcreek, behind General McLane.The Picker’s beat General McLane 38-32 in the first round of league play with a full team and lost 50-43 in the second round with a shorthanded team.
North East went 1-1 against Girard, Corry and Harborcreek and 2-0 against Fairview, Ft. LeBouef and Northwestern in league play.In independent games against Mercyhurst Prep, Franklin and Warren, North East went 1-2, losing to Mercyhurst Prep in overtime with a 51-47 score and Franklin 48-45, while beating Warren 32-31.
The team averaged 38 points per game and defensively gave up 32 points per game. They averaged over 23 rebounds a game, with 7.1 assists, nine deflections, 11 steals and 11 turnovers.
The Picker’s prided themselves in their defensive intensity, approaching each game with an intense focus resulting in limiting teams to only eight points per quarter and 32 points per game.
Their offensive plan was to gain consistency from game to game, staying patient and finishing shots.
The team struggled shooting from the field, shooting less than 30%, especially from the foul line, shooting only 39%.
The team consisted of Reid Courtwright, David Gibson, Peyton Gorniak, Zac Jekel, Owen Kemp, Thomas Murphy, Sane Strong, Trent Sweet and Tyler Wittman.Statistic leaders include:

Owen Kemp was named to the All-Tournament team at the League Championship Tournament.
