The Picker Girls golf team wrapped up its regular season last week. The team’s final region match was held at Fox Run Golf Course in Waterford.
Lydia and Anna Swan led the way again for the Lady Pickers. The sisters took charge early in the match as they both birdied the first two holes. Lydia managed to stay under par for the remainder of the match shooting a 2 under 34 with Anna right behind her with an even score of 36.
Shooting a 41, Taylor Urban continues to shoot consistent scores to keep the girls team on track.
The Lady Pickers won the Region 2 title, which hasn’t been done in recent history.
In addition, Lydia and Anna finished one and two in the region and Taylor Urban fifth.
“Having 3 in the top 10 was a fantastic accomplishment for these girls,” coach Mark Hughes commented.
In nonregion play the girls competed in a dual match with McDowell last Tuesday, Sept. 22. All six girls on the team competed at Green Meadows and Hughes is encouraged by the progress the ladies have made throughout the season.
“Everyone expects Lydia and Anna to shoot low, but I am pleased with the improvement in our other four girls as they have made steady progress as we head toward the District 10 playoffs this week,” Hughes said.
The Lady Pickers won the match against the visiting Trojans by a 6-stroke margin.
