With the continued spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, we are truly in uncharted territory as a Commonwealth and as a nation. Across the state, we have seen our Pennsylvania employers, nonprofit leaders, and local governments rise to the challenge, taking drastic steps to limit the spread of the virus. Their response reminds us that, in the face of such a daunting challenge, every one of us has a role to play.
Regardless of the size of company you work for, the salary range you are in, and whether you are full or part time, the principle of caring for yourself and your family should apply to all employees. That is what The PA Family Care Act (SB 580 / HB 1739) is all about
The PA Family Care Act supports employers and families by creating a state insurance fund to shoulder the burden, so that no family need worry about their business shuttering its doors or losing the roof over their heads when illness occurs. This is the right thing to do for Pennsylvania working families, and businesses, now and in the future
The PA Family Care Act will:
• Create a state insurance fund so that employers don’t bear the burden of employees’ salaries when they need to take time to care for themselves or a family member
• Allow people facing serious illness to take the time needed to recover, without rushing back to work because they can’t afford the rent
• Extend protections to all working Pennsylvanians, not just those at certain companies
The PA Family Care Campaign is a statewide coalition of organizations united behind the need to support hardworking families that are simply doing their best to take care of loved ones. The coalition is supported by The Women and Girls Foundation of PA and PathWays PA. For more information visit www.FamilyCareAct.com
