North East wrestlers Bryson Galloway, Kyler Kimmy, Logan Latimore, John McGuigan Jr. and Sabrina See are traveling to Monroeville to compete in the Keystone State Youth Wrestling Championships.
Wrestling will start on Thursday, April 1, with the 12u and JH groups.
10u and 8u will start Friday and girls will start on Saturday.
COVID-19 has made for many obstacles.
The wrestlers and many of the coaches and parents involved have come up with new ways to keep the season going.
The typical PJW wrestling championships opted to not go this year. As a result, a group from Pittsburgh decided to put together qualifiers and a state tournament for the kids.
In years past, all the kids have wrestled at the same times in the venue. Due to COVID-19 and safety protocols, they have been blocked out into age grouped time frames.
“The plus side to the age groups is you are not staying all day at a tournament, so you can get in and out in 2-3 hours,” Logan Latimore said.
The wrestlers have been practicing since October with the Ragin Raisins Wrestling Club, Rambler Wrestling Club.
Kimmy and Latimore have also been wrestling for the North East junior high program.
