To commemorate Arbor Day on April 30, the North East Shade Tree Commission will hold a tree pruning workshop Saturday, May 15, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Participants will learn pruning basics, the proper pruning for deciduous trees and how to choose the right tools for the job. The workshop will be presented by Sarah Peelman, ISA certified arborist along with Daryl Kidder of the North East Shade Tree Commission.
Following a pruning demonstration, participants will have the opportunity for hands-on pruning of young trees planted on borough streets. There is no charge for the workshop and it will take place rain or shine.
Pruning young trees is key to successful landscaping. Proper pruning of young trees helps them grow structurally sound and provides them a better chance to survive beyond their juvenile years. Like their mature counterparts, these young trees have specific pruning practices that need to be applied at the right time to ensure they grow to their full potential.
Join for a hands-on workshop and gain valuable experience making proper pruning cuts and learn how to avoid common mistakes faced during the first 10 years of young tree development.
Participants will meet at the corner of South Mill Street and Lincoln Street.
