Before a North East Borough Council meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 7, select Council members, Heather Barnett, President Dave Hall, Bill Beardsley, Mayor Steve Gregory and Borough Manager Pat Gehrlein met with local landlords at 5 p.m. in Borough Hall.
The meeting was meant to further discuss the Residential Rental Inspection Program approved in October 2020.
The borough has yet to set a start date. The borough is going to allow landlords to discuss problems and potentially revise the ordinance and checklist accompanying it.
The meeting was fueled by questions from an overall disgruntled crowd of landlords.
The landlords wanted an explanation for focusing on residential rental properties and not encompassing all rental properties in North East.
It was agreed upon by both parties the ordinance will need to be further discussed.
In order to make some progress during the meeting, Gehrlein went over each item on the checklist.
This was the starting point for change and the landlords were given a say in what they feel is necessary when looking at the health and safety of their properties.
Landlords were allowed to ask questions for each item listed and a revised checklist will be drawn up for further review at the next landlord meeting, that date for which has not been set.
