Greenfield Township Volunteer Fire Co. is sad to announce the passing of past Chief Lonzo Newcome. He served the community through the fire department for 48 years.
Newcome had previously been the fire chief and ended his tenure as treasurer.
“He was instrumental in the rebuilding of Greenfield through his work as our treasurer,” Fire Chief Kevin Bartlett said. “Pinching those pennies when the rest of us didn’t see the big picture. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to his wisdom and patience as he will be sorely missed.”
As part of its gratitude for his work within the fire department, the Greenfield Township Volunteer Fire Co. dedicated the new tanker 715 in his memory including a plaque that was installed on the emergency vehicle on April 14.
“The entire department came together to make this happen and we are proud to have his name displayed,” Bartlett said. “Godspeed ‘Dad’, we’ve got it from here.”
