Calvin Janes, an active community member, has announced his candidacy for mayor as a Republican.
Janes is currently employed at Advance Auto Parts as the Commercial Parts Pro salesperson for North East and the surrounding areas.
“I have worked in the North East community since 1987,” Janes said. “As a Ripley graduate class of 1989, I moved to North East in the fall of 1989 and have spent many years working in this community that I love.”
Janes worked for North East Borough as a licensed operator for the water and wastewater department for 15 years.
Janes also purchased the Chesley building on the corner of North Lake and Main Street in 2007.
He invested many hours and resources to revitalize the building.
“I wanted the building to be more inviting to visitors and community members alike,” Janes said. “I truly enjoyed the five years I spent owning and running my hobby shop on the corner, Calerin Hobbies. Being involved in the community is important to me.”
Janes was also a member of the North East Chamber of Commerce for eight years and served one year on borough council.
“The time I spent with other like-minded volunteers working together to help our community thrive was a great privilege,” Janes said. “I can only hope by running for mayor I can continue this and keep serving North East. My vision for our community is simple, I will focus on leading with honesty, integrity, character and transparency for its citizens.”
Janes will focus on finding ways to eradicate illegal drugs in the community and making sure the police department has the funds and resources needed for training and equipment.
“I will implement my conservative values to ensure that taxpayer money is used in a responsible manner focusing on the safety of our community and the police officers that protect us,” Janes said.
