After consultation with the Erie County Health Department, PENNDOT, North East Borough, North East Township and the Department of Pennsylvania American Legion, the American Legion Lake Shore Post 105 will not be hosting the annual Memorial Day Parade this year.
The American Legion Post 105 and VFW Post 4789 will hold an abbreviated remembrance ceremony in Gibson Park at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 25, 2020, followed by a brief ceremony in the Oak Hill (North East) Cemetery.
The ceremony will be livestreamed on the American Legion Facebook page (American Legion Post #105 Family, North East Pennsylvania), for those who would prefer to stay home during this time.
The American Legion and VFW both apologize for inconvenience, but due to the restrictions placed on the Posts, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, leadership of both Posts decided this was the most responsible way of honoring our fallen, without placing the community, our members or the children of the parade groups at any risk.
Your Freedom, comes at the cost of your neighbor’s loss. Please take some time on this coming Memorial Day and reflect on this.
Enjoy your family time but we ask that you keep in your thoughts those who are not with their family this holiday weekend.
Dean Taylor, Commander- Post 105
