On Saturday, May 11, letter carriers throughout northwest Pennsylvania and the Second Harvest Food Bank will again Stamp Out Hunger! with the community’s help.
Residents can leave a sturdy bag containing nonperishable foods like canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal next to their mailbox early in the morning on May 11.
Food items should be in non-breakable containers, such as boxes and cans. Local letter carriers and volunteers will be collecting donations from homes in North East and delivering them to the North East Food Pantry.
Now in its 27th year, the Stamp Out Hunger! effort is the nation’s largest single-day food drive, having collected more than 1 billion pounds of food since its inception in 1993.
Last year, the letter carriers and volunteers in North East collected 2,029 pounds of food to help feed the hungry. Over 112,000 pounds was collected throughout northwest Pennsylvania. Community support during this event will greatly help Second Harvest to continue to provide food assistance to neighbors in need.
