The North East fire departments were dispatched to Route 20 just past McDonald’s restaurant on Wednesday, May 27, around 7 a.m. for a hazardous material spill due to a vehicle accident.
The accident involved a box truck transporting hazardous material that was leaking onto the road.
The North East fire departments, Erie County Hazardous Material response team and environmental corrections all responded to the scene to contain the leak and appropriately handle the cleaning process.
“We do not know the exact mixture of hazardous materials but we are all working diligently to contain it as safely and quickly as we can,” Matt Skrekla, captain of Fuller Hose Co. 1 said. “This can be a lengthy process but all of the appropriate assistance has been called to help, and we will keep at it till the job is done.”
At the time of publication, the fire department could not be reached for another comment on the current status of the leak.
