For some, penny candy may be nostalgic but to many it, is the new candy shop in town. Tim and Melissa Penfield have opened Penny’s Candy, a candy shop at 2 E. Main St.
After ordering the sweet treats and setting up shop, their two months of work have paid off and Penny’s Candy is now open.
The candy shop will feature a wide variety of turn-and-go retro candy along with the new favorites of today, in hopes to attract a variety of customers.
“We wanted a sweet but simple place for the kids to go whether it be on their way to school, walking home or just trying to find something fun to do,” Melissa said. “I remember when we had a corner store years ago, and I feel like our kids could use something like that today.”
These newlyweds and now business partners have found their passion of giving back to the community.
“I am not originally from North East, but after marrying Melissa and taking roots here, I realized what a wonderful place this town is,” Tim said. “Melissa is already a local business owner but I have found this to be my way of making connections. I’ve been enjoying the whole process.”
Penny’s Candy will be open all during the week with varying hours.
