The North East Police Department is asking for the community’s help in creating a database of local security cameras where private households and businesses can register their surveillance systems.
Choosing to provide law enforcement with the location of a security camera empowers the police with the information needed to catch criminals faster.
Anyone who shares camera location information can rest assured that it is only shared with law enforcement agencies.
In the event of a crime, the participants may be contacted by law enforcement so they may review the camera recordings.
This database is voluntary, if anyone has a camera (Ring doorbell, wired cameras, wireless cloud cameras) and would be willing to add their information to the database, send the following to firstname.lastname@example.org:
Name, address, phone number, email, how many cameras are outside, how many cameras are inside and do the cameras view any intersections.
Many business owners and residents already operate private surveillance systems. As crimes occur in these respective areas, community members are not always aware that their surveillance systems may have captured information that could prove vital in a law enforcement investigation.
Proactive communication and strong partnerships between the police department and all members of the community are a positive step toward a safer community.
