Borough of Edinboro Police charged a North East man with lying on a form to purchase a firearm.
Police charged Donald R. Slaughenhaupt Jr., 64, of 8707 Williams Road, with one count each of sale or transfer of firearms, a third-degree felony; and unsworn falsification to authorities, a third-degree misdemeanor.
On Nov. 22, Slaughenhaupt attempted to purchase and/or retrieve a firearm from Edinboro Outdoors, 301 Mill St., Edinboro. Slaughenhaupt completed the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Transaction Record form and signed and dated the form, certifying that all information and answers were true, correct and complete. It was found, however, that Slaughenhaupt was prohibited from acquiring a firearm.
Question 11c on the form asks, “Have you ever been convicted in any court for a felony, or any other crime for which the judge could have imprisoned you for more than one year, even if you received a shorter sentence including probation?” Slaughenhaupt clearly answered no, according to the affidavit of probable cause filed by police.
Upon further investigation, it was learned that, on Sept. 7, 2017, Slaughenhaupt did plead guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol (highest rate), a first-degree misdemeanor, and was sentenced to 18 months of restrictive intermediate punishment, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
