The Mary Stewart Hubley scholarships were recently awarded to qualified and deserving students. Winners of $ 5,000.00 scholarships were Albert Jiang, who is studying biology at West Virginia University, and Rachel Dingfelder, who is enrolled as a physical therapy student at Slippery Rock University. Both graduated from Corry Area High School. Five thousand dollar scholarships were also awarded to Victoria S. Bartlett of North East, who is a cybersecurity student at Gannon University; to Kaila R. Thomas of Union City, who is a nursing student at Robert Morris University; and to Lucas Beckerink of Clymer, who is a health and physical education student at Cedarville University. Awards will be made to students who attend the Corry Higher Education Center at a later date.
Mary Hubley was a respected Corry citizen who died in 2007. She was City Treasurer for many years. She was making scholarship awards to deserving students well before her death, and her philanthropy has continued to the present. The awards are made based on academic performance, character, financial need, clear career directions, and are given to students in their second year or beyond of post high school education.
