The Dollar General stores in Erie County were given a friendly competition to see which store could sell the most amount of Powerade and water bottles for first responders.
On May 20, 2020, the North East Dollar General placed second in the district donating the drinks to Fuller and Crescent Hose fire departments.
“We were given this challenge to not only give us workers something exciting to do but we also wanted to give back to the people putting themselves at risk every day,” Cheryl Osborne, Dollar General manager said. “We kept track of every bottle sold and it is amazing how such a small town can come together to do something good.”
Overall, the North East Dollar General sold 405 bottles of Powerade, 76 bottles of water and three gallon jugs of water.
All of the drinks sold were split down the middle and donated to each fire department.
“It is a pretty awesome feeling seeing your community work together to help us first responders out,” Matt Skrekla, captain of Fuller Hose Co. 1 said. “We appreciate everything the community does to support us and it makes everything we do mean so much more to us, especially during a time like this with the COVID-19 pandemic.”
