On May 6, Community Women’s Club of North East (CWCNE) representatives delivered 25 diaper and tote bags of items to North East WIC Agency staff members to be dispersed to their clients. The bags were packed with 13 infant care items, baby clothing, an infant toy, two first books and various early literacy and parenting resources.
To date, CWCNE has donated 476 bags for local WIC mothers through its Diaper Bag Project.
“A huge thank you to the North East Community Women’s Club for these 25 wonderful diaper bags for our WIC moms,” WIC staff member Lisa Scully, RDN, LDN, CLC, said. “Over the years, the bags have been a big help to our pregnant women and new moms. The moms love everything in their bags, and they have greatly appreciated receiving them, especially during the pandemic. The need in the North East community is still great. Thank you.”
CWCNE members and volunteers who helped to assemble this latest group of bags were Hannah Becker, Kim Becker, Shelley Chwatek, Sue Hammond, Kim MacKellar, Bonnie Rearick and volunteer Mia Becker.
Funds for the CWCNE Diaper Bag Project come from club fundraisers and private donations.
In addition, community members and CWCNE members donate items for the bags. Several folks handknit blankets, sweaters and bibs, while others sew burp cloths.
CWCNE is grateful to the following generous, compassionate individuals for their recent donations made by Dennis and Katherine Cantoni, Elena Saeli, Sue Funk, Colleen Surgener, Jim Wakeman and North East Crazy Quilters Lee Ellsworth and Judy Stoddard.
CWCNE extends a thank you to McCord Memorial Library, Hooked on Books for Kids and United Way of Erie County for providing early literacy resources and/or first books.
Also, CWCNE is thankful for the free publications it receives for the bags from both the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
