New owners, Lou Dominick and Bernadette Gouirand purchased the Colonial Motel in North East in March of 2019. The duo are working tirelessly to breathe new life into the Colonial Motel, working room by room on updates while keeping the cozy atmosphere.
The pair are originally from Washington, Pa., and have three girls together. The family frequently visited North East and new it was the place they were going to settle down in.
“We love the Erie area, especially North East, visiting at least seven times a year for wine, the Bayfront, Presque Isle and fishing,” said Gouirand. “On one of our trips to North East we drove passed the cutest motel and was looking up the background information on it and I came upon a for sale ad for the Colonial Motel.”
“We thought it was a sign so we booked a stay at the Colonial Motel, saw it was dated and got to thinking of all the small changes we could do to bring this place back to life with patrons.”
After considering such a big lifestyle change for their family, they decided to place an offer and became the owners of Colonial Motel shortly after.
The Colonial Motel is open for business and can find Dominick or Gouirand on the property at all times.
“Lou and I are never seen together outside of the complex, eating out is a no go,” said Gouirand. “We want to be present for our customers either by answering the phone, grabbing supplies for them and making sure they know the faces behind the business. As new members of the community we want to build relationships with everyone we meet.”
All of the rooms have new beds, linens and small appliances along with updated electrical, new key locks, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and faster WIFI.
“After the large initial updates to make sure our customers are comfortable, we are working room by room to renovate and give each room a completely new look,” said Gouirand. “To date, we have three completely updated rooms and love the progress we are making so far. We are also working on converting our smallest room into a vending area for our customers.”
Most rooms at the Colonial Motel are $90+ tax per night.
The Fisherman’s Suite has three beds and a full kitchen that is $125+ tax per night. Suite B is a full apartment with two bedrooms, living room and eat in kitchen at $140+ tax per night. Room five has a larger living space for $110 +tax per night. All rooms include free WIFI, cable tv, microwave, toaster, coffee pot and supplies for a fresh cup of joe, linens, pots, plates, silverware and cups.
“We want you to feel at home while away from home,” said Gouirand. “We want the customers to see the charm of Colonial Motel and feel welcomed by us as the new owners and family business.”
Prices will not increase after renovations. Colonial Motel has 16 rentable rooms and can be used for extended stays, large parties for events such as weddings and reunions or a weekend trip.
