On Saturday, Oct. 17, the lucky recipient of the Rotary Club of Westfield-Mayville’s Virtual Gold Rush reverse draw raffle grand prize of $1,000 was the Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue (NCCR) nonprofit organization in Westfield, N.Y.
The ticket was sponsored by Helen Baran, Westfield-Mayville Rotarian.
Natalie Swanson was the winner of the second prize of the 40-inch Smart TV, which was donated by Westfield-Mayville Rotarian Tracy S. Bennett, CPA. Shaun Smith won the third prize of $100 donated by the South Ripley Solar Project. Many others won gift certificates to various local businesses.
Tracy Bennett and Dan Smith co-chaired the Westfield-Mayville Rotary Club’s Virtual Gold Rush fundraiser.
“We really weren’t sure how our first ever virtual Gold Rush event would be, and we were pleasantly surprised,” Bennett said.
“All of the 250 tickets were quickly sold out.” Smith added. “We were able to broadcast the last seven winning ticket holders and their prizes via the two platforms of Facebook Live and Zoom, and quite a few folks viewed our session.”
Westfield-Mayville Rotarian Doc Hamels helped to emcee the broadcast and announce the last seven winners and their prizes. Jan Berkhouse, Westfield-Mayville Rotary Club president, briefly discussed Rotary International and its various avenues of service, including its global efforts in polio eradication.
She also explained some of the Westfield-Mayville Rotary Club’s many service endeavors in its five communities of Brocton, Mayville, Ripley, Sherman and Westfield.
All of the $4,400 net profit event proceeds will fund the Westfield-Mayville Rotary Club’s high school student scholarships and also various community service projects.
“We were overwhelmed by the generosity of the many local merchants who donated gift certificates, as well as by the outpouring of support from all those who purchased tickets to our Virtual Gold Rush,” Berkhouse said. “We are extremely grateful to all, and we thank all of our communities, including North East.”
Special recognition is given to the following businesses and sponsors for their donations of gift certificates: Add Lumber, Arlene’s Kitchen, Barcelona Café, Bella Salon & Day Spa, Brazill’s On Main, Calarco’s Italian Restaurant, Charlie’s Auto Center, Chris Knopp’s General Repair, CJ’s Pizza and Subs, Grace and Abe’s, Jack’s Barcelona Drive-In, Lake Shore Savings Bank and Lighthouse Point Grocery.
