B2S It Takes a Community is back for 2020 and participation is easier and more important than ever. In coordination with the Council of Churches and Sue Travis’ Adopt a Student — which provides a backpack and clothing to students — the North East Lions Club will be set up outside of Dollar General at 10670 E. Main St. on Saturday, Aug. 1 and Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days, collecting school supplies for the children of the North East School District. Look for the tent.
To participate, those interested can go to Dollar General, which is now accepting donations purchased within the store any time until Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020.
Customers can purchase items on the needs list at any store and donate at the Lions Tent.
Monetary donations will be accepted to purchase additional items not received through donations.
The North East Lions Club would also welcome donations from businesses, churches not already collecting and personal donors.
Items needed, but not limited to, include: loose leaf paper, spiral notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, glue, soap, hand sanitizer, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, deodorant, underwear — all sizes — and feminine hygiene products.
New this year are reusable water bottles as the school will have bottle refilling stations instead of traditional water fountains to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
These items are for students to take home and use while not in school and will be even more important this year if COVID-19 results in prolonged school closures.
Please join the North East Lions Club on its new meeting day, the fourth Thursday of the month at Super Stitch Community Room (back entrance) at 7 p.m.
